Early socialization lays the foundation for happy, well-adjusted puppies

When you choose a puppy from Happy Top Doodles,

you’re not just gaining a new furry friend—you’re benefiting from the dedication, expertise, and heart of a breeder who genuinely loves what they do. Let’s take a peek behind the scenes at what a typical day in the life looks like for us as responsible breeders.

A Dynamic Routine: Care Throughout the Day

At Happy Top Doodles, no two days are the same, but every day revolves around the health and happiness of our dogs and puppies. Our work begins early and continues throughout the day, seamlessly blending care, play, and enrichment.

The day's first task is checking on every puppy and adult dog. We ensure they’re all healthy, happy, and comfortable. Feeding time is a significant part of the routine. We provide high-quality dog food for all our dogs, ensuring they receive the nutrition they need. Moms are given additional vitamins and supplements to support their health, especially during pregnancy and nursing. When the puppies are ready to wean, we transition them onto softened food mixed with formula, giving them a strong start.

Socialization and Enrichment

Socialization is a cornerstone of our breeding philosophy, and it begins as early as day three. From day 3 to 16, we incorporate Early Scent Introduction (ESI) and Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) into the puppies’ routine. These scientifically backed practices promote neurological development and build resilience.

In addition, we follow the Puppy Culture program, which provides a structured approach to socialization and early training. Puppies are introduced to new sights, sounds, and textures, building their confidence and adaptability. Whether it’s playing with enrichment toys, exploring new environments, or gentle interactions with visitors, every experience is designed to help them grow into well-adjusted dogs.

We also incorporate early training activities like potty training basics and crate introduction. These foundational lessons set the stage for a smoother transition into their forever homes.

Daily Interaction and Desensitization

We prioritize daily interaction with our puppies to help them feel comfortable and secure. While we don’t groom them daily, we hold them, rub their coats, and gently play with their paws, ears, and tails. These interactions are not only enjoyable for the puppies but also play a crucial role in desensitizing them to handling. This ensures that grooming and other care routines later in life are much more manageable and stress-free for the dogs and their families.

During these sessions, we also observe each puppy’s temperament closely. This helps us understand their unique personalities, ensuring we can match them with the best possible families. For instance, a more independent puppy might thrive in a quieter household, while a playful, outgoing pup could be perfect for an active family.

Playtime and Bonding

Play and interaction are woven into every part of our day. Whether it’s a romp in the yard, a game of fetch, or cuddling on the couch, we ensure our dogs and puppies get the attention and stimulation they need. Playtime isn’t just fun—it’s an opportunity for puppies to learn important social cues and boundaries.

Around-the-Clock Care

Our commitment doesn’t stop when the day ends. We’re always on call for the dogs, ready to respond to nighttime needs or emergencies. Welcoming a litter of puppies often means late nights and early mornings, but it’s a labor of love we cherish.

Why It Matters

Being a responsible breeder is more than just a job; it’s a calling. Every decision we make—from health testing and socialization to matching families with the right puppy—reflects our dedication to the well-being of our dogs and their future families. When you bring home a puppy from Happy Top Doodles, you’re not just getting a pet; you’re becoming part of a family that values quality, care, and love above all else.
